Illustrating ELA pairs classes with talented artists in order to bring to life the short stories, non-fiction texts, and novels students have worked hard on in their class. Using standards-based practices, students in ELA Illustrators become stronger readers as they analyze the development of a character, their writing comes to life as they learn how to put text evidence into action in order to support the narrative they are developing within the lines of their comic book frame.
We have been lucky enough to run this program two times now, one to accompany "A Long Walk to Water" and another to develop single sheets to act as a scaffold for issues around global warming. Worksheets, rubrics, and other goodies are included in this class. One guarantee is that all students walk out better reader, writers, critical thinkers, and artists.
