W.R.a.P Crew: Writing, Reading, and Production Crew

W.R.a.P Crew is a multidisciplinary, academic program in which students read rigorous, non-fiction, texts about critical current events and issues in order to develop lyrics about these issues using grade-specific literary devices.  Along the way, students learn how to efficiently operate and work  with production hardware and software such as littleBits Synth Kit,  Midi keyboards, microphones, drum pads,  Garageband and iMovie in order to produce audio tracks and music videos about the critical issues studied in the course.

Data tracked from a group grade 6-8 of 62 students who participated in 3 cohorts of this program included: 

  • 97% increase in student confidence that they could Make something meaningful using technology, 
  • 74% positive E.L.A teacher feedback in increase of student clarity in writing informational responses. 
  • 89% positive feedback from Social Studies teachers about criminal justice issues and how they link to U.S. History content
  • 94% increase in student confidence that they know how to effectively use media software including audio and video production tools.

Participating schools, after-school programs, and districts receive professional staff development, W.R.a.P Crew Workbook (tailored to curriculum needs and student levels), lesson plans, and on site technical & instructional support.
